Spanish: Avefría Coronada
Other common names: Crowned Plover
Taxonomy: Charadrius Coronatus Boddaert, 1783, Cape of Good Hope.
Sometimes placed in genus Hoplopterus or Stephanibyx. Birds from SW Angola, Namibia, Botswana, W Zimbabwe and W Transvaal may be separated as third race xerophilus, but doubtfully distinct. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- coronatus (Boddaert, 1783) - Ethiopia to South Africa; marginal in SW Somalia.
- demissus (Friedmann, 1928) - Somalia.
