Taxonomy: Phasianus erythrophthalmus Raffles, 1822, Bengkulu, western Sumatra.
Has alternatively been placed in genus Acomus or genus Houppifer. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- erythrophthalma (Raffles, 1822) - Peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.
- pyronota (G. R. Gray, 1841) - N Borneo.
