Ovenbirds (Furnariidae)
Creamy-crested Spinetail (Cranioleuca albicapilla) - HBW 8, p. 296
French: Synallaxe à calotte blanche
German: Fahlkappen-Baumschlüpfer
Spanish: Curutié Crestado
Other common names: Buff-capped Spinetail
Taxonomy: Synallaxis albicapilla Cabanis, 1873, Maraynioc, Junín, Peru.
Has been considered by some authors to be part of a superspecies formed by C. subcristata, C. pyrrhophia, C. henricae, C. obsoleta, C. pallida, C. antisiensis and C. baroni, but genetic data suggest that at least the last two of those are not part of this lineage. Voice and biogeography suggest to some that it is most closely related to C. baroni, but genetic data are ambiguous. Race albigula evidently intergrades with nominate in Ayacucho and Apurímac. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- albicapilla (Cabanis, 1873) - Andes of C Peru (Junín and Huancavelica S to Ayacucho and Apurímac).
- albigula J. T. Zimmer, 1924 - Andes of S Peru (Cuzco S to Ayacucho and Apurímac).
