Taxonomy: Procellaria diomedea Scopoli, 1769, no locality; Tremiti Islands, Adriatic Sea.
Three subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- diomedea (Scopoli, 1769) - Mediterranean islands.
- borealis (Cory, 1881) - Berlengas Is (WC Portugal) W to Azores and S to Canary Is.
- edwardsii (Oustalet, 1883) - Cape Verde Is.
