Taxonomy: Bucco haemacephalus P. L. S. Müller, 1776, Philippine Islands.
Closely related to M. rubricapillus, with which forms the so-called “Xantholaema group”. Forms described from peninsular India, confusa from NW and lutea from SE, synonymous with indica. Nine subspecies currently recognized.

  • delica (Parrot, 1907) - Sumatra.
  • rosea (Dumont, 1816) - Java and Bali.
