Genus usually merged into Amazilia. Forms a superspecies with S. viridigaster and S. tobaci; normally considered conspecific with former, but morphological differences, especially in coloration of rump, uppertail-coverts and rectrices, in addition to disjunct ranges, support their separation as two distinct species. Three subspecies recognized.
