Taxonomy: Tringa Hypoleucos Linnaeus, 1758, Sweden.
Sometimes placed in genus Tringa. Occasionally considered conspecific with A. macularia. Monotypic.
Distribution: Europe E across C Asia to Kamchatka, Sakhalin and Japan. Winters from W Europe and Africa through Middle East and S Asia to Indonesia and Australia; irregularly on islands of W Pacific.
