Taxonomy: Procellaria urinatrix Gmelin, 1789, Queen Charlotte Sound, South Island, New Zealand.
Races exsul and berard sometimes considered distinct species. Masculine form of species name (urinator) more accurate, but normally disregarded. Six subspecies recognized.

  • chathamensis Murphy & Harper, 1916 - S New Zealand.
  • exsul Salvin, 1896 - South Georgia E to Antipodes Is.
