Taxonomy: Muscicapa albicollis Temminck, 1815, Europe and Germany = Thüringerwald, Germany.
Sometimes placed in genus Muscicapa. Often regarded as conspecific with F. semitorquata; differences in ecology and morphology suggest that treatment as separate species is more appropriate, although this still under debate. Hybridizes with F. hypoleuca in areas of sympatry in C & E Europe. Monotypic.

Distribution: Breeds SE Sweden (mainly Gotland and Öland), and from E France and S Germany E to C European Russia (Moscow) and Ukraine, S to Italy, Sicily and N Macedonia; non-breeding SC & S Africa.
