Taxonomy: Zosterops semperi Hartlaub, 1868, Palau Islands.
Forms a superspecies with Z. rotensis, Z. conspicillatus and Z. hypolais; all formerly considered conspecific, but differ in plumage, vocalizations and behaviour, and treatment as separate species supported by DNA-DNA hybridization and analyses of mitochondrial DNA. Geographical variation minimal, but races separated by large geographical distances. Three subspecies recognized.

- owstoni E. J. O. Hartert, 1900 - Chuuk (high islands within the atoll: Weno, Udot, Fefan, Fana, Dublon, Uman and Fanabeguets), in E Caroline Is.
- takatsukasai Momiyama, 1922 - Pohnpei I, in EC Caroline Is.
