Taxonomy: Buphus bacchus Bonaparte, 1855, Malay Peninsula.
Forms superspecies with A. grayii, A. speciosa and perhaps A. idae. Monotypic.
Distribution: Breeds from Manchuria and E China W to Assam, N Burma and Andaman Is, and recently also Japan; winters in Malay Peninsula, Indochina, Borneo and Sumatra, and recently in Ryukyu Is.
