Taxonomy: Columba araucana Lesson, 1827, Talcahuano, Concepción Bay, Chile.
Forms a superspecies with C. fasciata and C. caribaea. Monotypic.
Distribution: C & S Chile from Coquimbo S to C Fjordlands, including I Mocha; also SC & S Argentina, from Neuquén to W Chubut, and also SW Santa Cruz.
