Taxonomy: Phoenicopterus Chilensis Molina, 1782, Chile.
Sometimes considered subspecies of P. ruber. Monotypic.
Distribution: C Peru southwards through Andes to Tierra del Fuego; extends eastwards to S Brazil and Uruguay.
