Taxonomy: Odontophorus hyperythrus Gould, 1858, Santa Fé de Bogotá, Colombia.
May be conspecific with three other species, O. speciosus, O. erythrops and O. melanonotus. Possibly most closely related to O. speciosus. Some evidence of differences in plumage colour between populations of W and C Andes. Monotypic.
Distribution: Endemic to C and W Andes of Colombia.
