Taxonomy: Apalis porphyrolaema Reichenow and Neumann, 1895, Eldama, Mau, Kenya.
Forms a superspecies with A. kaboboensis and A. chapini; all sometimes treated as conspecific. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- porphyrolaema Reichenow & Neumann, 1895 - E DRCongo, W Rwanda, NW Burundi, E Uganda, Kenya and N Tanzania.
- affinis Ogilvie-Grant, 1906 - SW Uganda.
