Other common names: Chestnut-shouldered Petronia/Sparrow, Yellow-throated Sparrow/Rock-sparrow/Petronia
Taxonomy: Fringilla xanthocollis E. Burton, 1838, Ganges between Calcutta and Benares, India.
Genus often subsumed into Petronia. Forms a superspecies with G. pyrgita, and sometimes treated as conspecific. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- transfuga E. J. O. Hartert, 1904 - SE Turkey, SE Iraq, SW Afghanistan and S Pakistan; possibly also the Syrian Euphrates.
- xanthocollis ( E. Burton, 1838) - E Afghanistan and N Pakistan E to S Nepal, and most of India.
