Taxonomy: Pterocles exustus Temminck, 1825, Senegal.
Six subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • exustus Temminck, 1825 - Mauritania and Senegambia E to Sudan.
  • floweri Nicoll, 1921 - Nile Valley in C Egypt (almost certainly extinct).
  • ellioti Bogdanow, 1881 - SE Sudan E to Eritrea, N Ethiopia and Somalia.
