Taxonomy: Pterocles exustus Temminck, 1825, Senegal.
Six subspecies recognized.

- floweri Nicoll, 1921 - Nile Valley in C Egypt (almost certainly extinct).
- ellioti Bogdanow, 1881 - SE Sudan E to Eritrea, N Ethiopia and Somalia.

- floweri Nicoll, 1921 - Nile Valley in C Egypt (almost certainly extinct).
