Taxonomy: Athene castanonota Blyth, 1852, Sri Lanka.
Possibly forms superspecies with G. radiatum; although both present in Sri Lanka, they occupy different habitats. Formerly treated as race of either G. cuculoides or G. radiatum. Monotypic.
Distribution: Sri Lanka.
