Tyrant-flycatchers (Tyrannidae)

Chapman's Bristle-tyrant (Pogonotriccus chapmani) - HBW 9, p. 303

French: Tyranneau de Chapman German: Olivkappen-Laubtyrann Spanish: Orejerito de Chapman
Other common names: Chapman’s Tyrannulet

Taxonomy: Phylloscartes chapmani Gilliard, 1940, Cerro Roraima, 4200 feet [c. 1280 m], Venezuela.
Genus previously merged with Phylloscartes, and that treatment retained by many authors; despite superficial similarities, however, the two groups differ significantly in foraging behaviour and postures, possibly also in details of nest (little known), and perhaps are not even closely related to one another. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • duidae (Phelps, Sr & Phelps, Jr, 1951) - Cerros Duida and Neblina in S Venezuela (S Amazonas) and adjoining Brazil.
