Other common names: Straus’s Apalis (strausae)

Taxonomy: Apalis chapini Friedmann, 1928, Nyingwa, Uluguru Mountains, Tanzania.
Forms a superspecies with A. porphyrolaema and A. kaboboensis; all sometimes treated as conspecific. Form described as Artisornis metopias bensoni is a synonym of race strausae. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • chapini Friedmann, 1928 - highlands of C Tanzania.
  • strausae Boulton, 1931 - S Tanzania, NE Zambia and N & C Malawi.
