Taxonomy: Nothura maculosa chacoensis Conover, 1937, Paraguayan Chaco.
Sometimes considered subspecies of N. maculosa, but separated on grounds of sympatry in C Paraguay and N Argentina. Monotypic.

Distribution: NW Paraguay and extreme NC Argentina.
