Taxonomy: Limnaetus africanus Cassin, 1865, Ogabi River, Gabon.
The only African member of the genus (as presently defined); previously placed in Hieraaetus, or more often in its own genus Cassinaetus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Sierra Leone and Liberia E to W Uganda and E Zaire; also NW Angola.
