Buff-tailed Coronet (Boissonneaua flavescens) - HBW 5, p. 620

French: Colibri flavescent German: Fahlschwanzkolibri Spanish: Colibrí Colihabano

Taxonomy: Trochilus flavescens Loddiges, 1832, Popayán, Colombia.
Specimens at the south end of the range of nominate are similar in colour to tinochlora, but the subspecific distinction is still evident in the general coloration and the pattern of the tail-feather tips. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • flavescens (Loddiges, 1832) - Andes of NW Venezuela (Mérida) and Colombia (all three ranges).
  • tinochlora Oberholser, 1902 - SW Colombia and W Andean slope of Ecuador.
