Buff-necked Ibis (Theristicus caudatus)

Taxonomy: Scolopax caudatus Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne.
Forms superspecies with T. melanopis, which was formerly considered race of present species. Two subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • caudatus (Boddaert, 1783) - Colombia and Venezuela to French Guiana, S to Mato Grosso, Brazil.
  • hyperorius Todd, 1948 - E Bolivia to SE Brazil, Paraguay, N Argentina and Uruguay.
