Taxonomy: Turnix olivii Robinson, 1900, Cooktown, Queensland.
Forms superspecies with T. castanota and T. varia; sometimes considered conspecific with former, but differs in bill size and plainer plumage. Specific name sometimes misspelt olivei, but original spelling is olivii. Proposed race coenensis (from N of range) no longer recognized, because based on individual variation. Monotypic.

Distribution: Cape York Peninsula, N Queensland, Australia.
