Taxonomy: Bucco swainsoni G. R. Gray, 1846, Brazil.
Forms a superspecies with N. macrorhynchos, and usually regarded as conspecific (see page105). Monotypic.
Distribution: SE Brazil (Espírito Santo to Santa Catarina), E Paraguay, and NE Argentina (Misiones).
