Taxonomy: Megalurus cruralis Vigors and Horsfield, 1827, Sidney, Australia.
Striking morphological differences from C. mathewsi suggest that the two species may not be closely related and should perhaps be placed in separate genera. Monotypic.
Distribution: Australia, breeding almost entirely S of Tropic of Capricorn; non-breeding across much of interior.
