Other common names: Brown Fairy-warbler, Brown/Northern/Queensland Flyeater, Brown (Gerygone) Warbler; Northern Gerygone/Warbler (mouki)

Taxonomy: Gerygone laevigaster mouki Mathews, 1912, Cairns, north-east Queensland, Australia.
Forms a superspecies with G. igata, possibly including also G. albofrontata and, perhaps, G. modesta. With exception of G. albofrontata, these were once considered (together with the extinct Lord Howe I species G. insularis) to be conspecific, but they differ significantly in plumage and song. Three subspecies recognized.

Subspecies and Distribution:

  • mouki Mathews, 1912 - NE Queensland (from Mt Amos S to Paluma), in NE Australia.
  • amalia Meise, 1931 - Clarke Range S to Connors Range, in E Queensland.
  • richmondi (Mathews, 1915) - coastal and subcoastal E Australia from SE Queensland (Dawes Range) S, inland to E scarps of Great Dividing Range, to Victoria (W Gippsland).
