Taxonomy: Hylophilus leucophrys Lafresnaye, 1844, Colombia.
Sometimes placed in a separate genus, Melodivireo. May form a superspecies with V. gilvus, and often considered conspecific, but the two differ in plumage and some vocalizations. N races (eleanorae, dubius, amauronotus, strenuus, bulli, palmeri) have been treated as forming a separate species, distinct from that consisting of remaining races (in Costa Rica, Panama and South America).
