Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- ruficollis Salvadori, 1876 - NW New Guinea (Arfak Mts).
- insperata De Vis, 1892 - C mountain ranges of New Guinea E to Owen Stanley Range, including Huon Peninsula.
