Taxonomy: Campylorhynchus jocosus P. L. Sclater, 1860, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Has been thought by some to form a superspecies with C. yucatanicus and C. brunneicapillus. Sometimes treated as conspecific with C. gularis, but the two are quite distinct in appearance and probably occupy slightly different ecological niches. Monotypic.

Distribution: SC Mexico (S Puebla, S Morelos, Guerrero and Oaxaca).
