Taxonomy: Galbula cyanescens Deville, 1849, Sarayacu, River Ucayali, Peru.
Forms a superspecies with G. ruficauda, G. galbula, G. pastazae and G. tombacea; most closely related to the last two. Monotypic.
Distribution: S of Amazon in E Peru, W Brazil (E to R Madeira) and N Bolivia (S to N La Paz).
