Taxonomy: Anas discors Linnaeus, 1766, North America = Carolina ex Catesby.
Sometimes placed in genus Spatula. E population has been assigned separate subspecies, orphna, but doubtfully valid. Monotypic.
Distribution: North America, from S Alaska to Newfoundland, and S to C USA.
