Taxonomy: Ianthocincla squamata Gould, 1835, Sikkim, Himalayas, India.
Genus traditionally subsumed in Garrulax. Suggestion of polymorphism appears to relate to sexual differences. Monotypic.
Distribution: C Nepal E to Bhutan, all NE Indian hill states, W, N & E Myanmar, S China (W & S Yunnan) and NW Vietnam (W Tonkin).
