Taxonomy: Muscicapa cyanomelana Temminck, 1829, Japan.
Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- cumatilis Thayer & Bangs, 1909 - breeds NE China (Manchuria S to Hebei), SE Russia (S Ussuriland) and N Korea; non-breeding Laos and Vietnam, Greater Sundas and Philippines (Luzon, Palawan).
- cyanomelana (Temminck, 1829) - breeds S Kuril Is, Japan and S Korea; non-breeding Taiwan, SE China (Hainan), Indochina, Philippines (Luzon, Negros, Palawan, Balabac and Bongao) and Borneo.
