Old World Flycatchers (Muscicapidae)
Blue-throated Blue-flycatcher (Cyornis rubeculoides) - HBW 11, p. 155
French: Gobemouche à menton bleu
German: Blaukehlschnäpper
Spanish: Papamoscas Gorgiazul
Other common names: Blue-throated Flycatcher; Chinese Flycatcher, Chinese Blue-flycatcher (glaucicomans)
Taxonomy: Phoenicura rubeculoides Vigors, 1831, Darjeeling, Himalayas.
Race glaucicomans has sometimes been considered a separate species on basis of differences in plumage and song; until review of entire grouping is undertaken, however, it is probably better treated as an incipient species. Birds in Assam (NE India), hitherto considered to be within geographical range of nominate race, exhibit characters of dialilaemus, and in Himalayas occasional males have throat pattern of latter race, indicating wide range of overlap between the races; further clarification of ranges and racial boundaries in this region is needed. Five subspecies recognized.
