Taxonomy: Galbula cyanicollis Cassin, 1851, Pará, Brazil.
Forms a superspecies with G. albirostris; sometimes considered conspecific, but no intergradation observed in zone of potential sympatry in R Ucayali Valley, NE Peru, and their populations are otherwise separated by R Amazon almost throughout its length. Considerable geographical variation in plumage characters; upper Amazonian subpopulation possibly a separate race, or even distinct species. Monotypic.

Distribution: E Peru (S to lower R Ucayali) and Brazil S of Amazon (E to Maranhão, S to Rondônia and N Mato Grosso).
