Taxonomy: Psittacus lucionensis Linnaeus, 1766, Luzon.
May form a superspecies with T. megalorynchos. Four subspecies recognized.

- lucionensis (Linnaeus, 1766) - Luzon and Mindoro, N Philippines.
- hybridus Salomonsen, 1952 - Polillo, N Philippines.
- salvadorii Ogilvie-Grant, 1896 - Philippines (except N) and Malaysian islands off NE Borneo.
- talautensis A. B. Meyer & Wiglesworth, 1895 - Talaud Is (S of Philippines).
