Taxonomy: Aulacorhynchus cœrulei-cinctis d’Orbigny, 1840, no locality = Yungas, Bolivia.
Forms a superspecies with A. haematopygus and A. huallagae, and possibly closer to latter. Putative race borealis of NC Peru (Junín) considered invalid, as appears to be based on individual, not geographical, variation. Species name often listed as coeruleicinctus, but original spelling, coeruleicinctis, must stand. Monotypic.
Distribution: C Peru (S Huánuco) on E Andean slope, including a few isolated montane areas to E, to S & SE Bolivia (Chuquisaca, Santa Cruz).
