Taxonomy: Charadrius armatus Burchell, 1822, Klaarwater (= Griquatown), South Africa.
Formerly placed in monospecific genus Anitibyx; sometimes included in Hoplopterus. Monotypic.
Distribution: Angola to C Tanzania and CS Kenya, and S to South Africa, except W coast of Namibia.
