Coursers and Pratincoles (Glareolidae)
Black-winged Pratincole (Glareola nordmanni) - HBW 3, p. 382
French: Glaréole à ailes noires
German: Schwarzflügel-Brachschwalbe
Spanish: Canastera Alinegra
Taxonomy: Glareola Nordmanni Fischer, 1842, steppes of southern Russia.
Forms superspecies with G. maldivarum and G. pratincola, though range overlap with latter causes some authorities to exclude present species from the superspecies. At one time erroneously regarded as colour morph of G. pratincola, with which has been known to hybridize; also, on occasion, considered a race of G. pratincola. Monotypic.
Distribution: Romania, E through Ukraine to SW Russia and N Kazakhstan. Winters in S Africa and, more irregularly, in W Africa.
