Taxonomy: Oestrelata nigripennis Rothschild, 1893, Kermadec Islands.
Forms superspecies with P. axillaris. Usually forms part of assemblage referred to as subgenus Cookilaria. Monotypic.
Distribution: SW Pacific, from Lord Howe I and (?) E Australia to Kermadec Is, extending N to New Caledonia and S to Chatham Is; also Austral Is (SC Pacific).
