Taxonomy: Gallinula ventralis Gould, 1837, Swan River, West Australia.
In past sometimes placed in genus Tribonyx; although most appropriately retained in Gallinula, may merit separate subgenus along with G. mortierii on basis of morphological features. Monotypic.
Distribution: Australia.
