Taxonomy: Cuculus ater Boddaert, 1783, Cayenne.
Forms a superspecies with M. nigrifrons and M. morphoeus. Monotypic.
Distribution: S & E Venezuela and the Guianas S to N Brazil (N of Amazon and E of R Negro); possibly also extreme E Colombia (E Vichada, E Guainía).
