Taxonomy: Grus nigricollis Przevalski, 1876, Tsinghai Province, China.
Monotypic.
Distribution: E Ladakh (NW India) through Tibet to Xinjiang, Qinghai, Gansu and Sichuan (W & C China). Winters from S Tibet-Qinghai Plateau, Bhutan and NW Arunachal Pradesh (NE India) E to Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau (SC China).
