Forms
a superspecies with M. pammelaena, M. lafargei, M.
eichhorni, M. malaitae and M. tristrami, and
formerly suggested that all may be conspecific; this group possibly
closely related to the M. cardinalis superspecies. Monotypic.
Distribution: Guadalcanal, Savo and Nggela, in EC Solomon Is.
