Taxonomy: Charadrius tectus Boddaert, 1783, Senegal.
Sometimes placed in Hoplopterus, Lobivanellus or monospecific Sarciophorus. Two subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- tectus (Boddaert, 1783) - S Mauritania and Senegal to Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya.
- latifrons (Reichenow, 1881) - S Somalia to E Kenya.
