Closely
related to O. hosii,
O. traillii
and O. mellianus;
all, togther with O. xanthornus,
form the “Asian black-headed group”. Four
subspecies recognized.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- malayanus Robinson & Kloss, 1923 - Peninsular Malaysia.
- consanguineus (R. G. W. Ramsay, 1881) - mainland Sumatra.
- cruentus (Wagler, 1827) - Java.
- vulneratus Sharpe, 1887 - N & C Borneo.
