Taxonomy: Crypturus atro capillus Tschudi, 1844, Peru.
Has been considered subspecies of C. noctivagus. Race garleppi may be distinct species. Two subspecies recognized.

- garleppi (Berlepsch, 1892) - N Bolivia.
