Taxonomy: Bucco Oorti S. Müller, 1835, Sumatra.
Related to M. franklinii, with similar morphology and vocalizations, and both possibly connected also to M. faiostricta. Also probably allied to M. asiatica and M. incognita and to group that includes M. henricii, M. armillaris and M. pulcherrima, and has also been considered by some authors to be be close to M. monticola. Very well-marked races sini and faber could prove specifically distinct; nuchalis also sometimes thought possibly to be a distinct species, but tends to bridge differences between these two races and nominate oorti and annamensis; thus, all are considered better treated as races of present species. Five subspecies currently recognized.

  • nuchalis (Gould, 1863) - Taiwan.
